Shaving Soaps

Ready for a shave that's beyond the ordinary? We have just what you need!

Transform your run-of-the-mill wet shaving routine into an indulgent, luxurious experience with a classic shaving soap. Not only will they give you an excellent lather for a cleaner and smoother shave but also provide an array of delightful scents made from the best natural ingredients.

As many old fashioned shaving soaps are triple-milled in production, meaning they are passed through steel rollers a minimum of three times to produce a smooth soap, you can be sure that the shaving soaps will last you a very long time. It is always recommended to use the shaving soap with a quality shaving brush and most people also prefer using a bowl or mug.

We have a broad selection of styles and brands you can choose from. Triple milled hard soaps from France, hot pour soaps from Italy, established brands that have been around for over centuries or small artisan brands that are innovating with new scents and new methods.

There is no better place to start turning your everyday morning routine into something extraordinary! Explore our range of shaving soaps today!

How to Use Shaving Soaps

Using traditional shaving soap can elevate your shaving routine, offering a classic and enjoyable experience. Here's how to use them effectively:

  1. Gather Your Supplies: You'll need a shaving brush (preferably made from badger, boar, or synthetic bristles), a bowl or mug for lathering, and, of course, your shaving soap.
  2. Prep Your Face: Begin by washing your face with warm water. This helps to soften your facial hair and open up the pores, making shaving smoother. You can also apply a warm, damp towel to your face for a couple of minutes for extra softening.
  3. Soak Your Brush: While prepping your face, soak your shaving brush in warm water. This softens the bristles and helps them hold water, which is key for creating a good lather.
  4. Load the Brush: Shake off excess water from the brush and swirl it over the surface of the shaving soap. Do this for about 30 seconds or until the bristles are loaded with soap.

FAQs

Can you use soap as shaving cream?

Technically, yes, you can use soap as a substitute for shaving cream, but it's not ideal. Regular soap might not provide the same level of lubrication and protection against the razor as shaving cream or gel.

Shaving creams are specifically formulated to create a rich, protective lather that softens the hair and moisturizes the skin, making the shave smoother and more comfortable.

Regular soap, especially if it's not designed for shaving, might dry out your skin or not offer enough slip for a close shave.

What is shaving soap?

Shaving soap is a hard soap specifically formulated for shaving. It's used to create a lather by swirling a wet shaving brush over the surface of the soap. This lather helps to hydrate the beard, making it easier to shave.

Traditional shaving soaps are known for their long-lasting properties and often come in a variety of scents.

They require a bit more effort to generate a lather compared to classic shaving creams but are favored for their traditional approach and the quality of lather they produce.

Is shaving soap better than shaving cream?

Whether shaving soap is better than shaving cream depends on personal preference and your shaving routine. Shaving soaps generally offer a richer and more lubricated lather, which can lead to a closer shave and less irritation.

They also tend to last longer than shaving creams, making them more cost-effective in the long run. However, they do require a bit more time and technique to create a good lather.

Shaving creams, on the other hand, are quicker and easier to use, as they can be applied directly to the face without the need for a brush. They are often more moisturizing and better for those with sensitive skin.

Ultimately, the choice between soap and cream depends on what suits your skin type, shaving style, and the amount of time you want to invest in your shaving routine.

What are the different types of shaving soaps?

Shaving soaps come in various types, each offering a unique shaving experience. Here are some of the common types:

  • Triple-Milled: These soaps are processed three times to remove excess water and impurities, resulting in a very hard soap. Triple-milled soaps are long-lasting, create a rich and creamy lather, and are known for their consistency in quality.
  • Hot Pour: Hot pour soaps are made by pouring molten soap into molds where they cool and harden. This method often results in a softer soap that can create a luxurious lather more quickly but may not last as long as triple-milled soaps.
  • Italian-Style: Italian shaving soaps are typically softer than triple-milled soaps and are known for their rich, creamy lather. They often contain natural ingredients like olive oil or almond oil, providing a moisturizing shave.
  • Tallow-Based: These soaps contain tallow (animal fat) as a key ingredient. Tallow-based soaps are praised for their ability to create a dense, cushioning lather, providing excellent glide and skin protection during shaving.
  • Glycerin-Based: Glycerin soaps are known for their moisturizing properties. They are gentle on the skin, making them a good choice for those with sensitive skin, and they tend to create a slick lather that is ideal for a smooth shave.

What is the difference between shaving soap and shaving cream?

Shaving soaps and shaving creams, while both used for traditional wet shaving, differ significantly in their form, consistency, and usage. Shaving soap is firmer and drier.

It requires more effort to build a lather, often needing a shaving brush and a bit of patience to achieve the desired consistency. On the other hand, shaving cream is softer and more pliable.

It's easier and quicker to lather, either directly on the face or in a shaving bowl, making it more convenient for those new to wet shaving or in need of a quicker shave.

Additionally, shaving soaps are known for their longevity and cost-effectiveness over time, while creams are praised for their rich, immediate lather and moisturizing properties, which are particularly beneficial for those with sensitive skin.
